Political Art

 Political Art
Yellow: Knowledge claim
Orange: Counterclaim
Green: Knowledge question

In my person viewpoint, i do not believe that artists have a moral responsibility to act as a voice for indivisuals or communities to communicate with the wider world; or, for groups and campaigns to spread a message. Artists create their art for different purposes; so, if their artwork was not meant to have a deeper message for the wider world, that is not wrong and they should not be held accountable for not being morally responsible. There is subjective art and objective art however i do not believe all art should fall under a political and subjective category as some art is simply made to be enjoyed.

Banksy however did create political art and his aim for each artwork was clear. However, i still don't find that he had to create art like that only to be morally responsible. Not all artists aim to communicate issues that happen in this world. Some artists are artists because it is their hobby while others have a bigger goal. Some artists aim for aestheticism only while others can only aim to voice their opinions. Either way, unless an artist clearly specifies or shows that they create their art for the sole purpose of spreading a message to the wider world, they shouldn't be responsible to be that voice for people. In addition, some artists don't specifically choose to be "famous"; therefore, there art may not have a message to spread as they did not intent on it being public.

Also, i do not believe that art should be the main platform of communicating political messages as usually an artist's aim and the artwork's meaning is only accurate and known by the artist. Meaning, art can be interpreted any way and that can be misleading to some as they might "wrongfully" interpret an artwork. That would not be a good thing if the artwork was political as it can cause serious outrage amongst society.

Some people might argue that since artists have a public platform to discuss serious issues occurring in the world, they shouldn't waste the chance as it is immoral of them. However, in my opinion, it is everyone's responsibility to speak up on political issues and not only artists. Art that is made for the purpose of aestheticism can aim to make an audience happy or less lonely as there is a lot of media coverage on political issues and people want a break from that. Indeed it is moral to use your platform to spread a message but it should not be the duty of an artist. So, in your personal viewpoint, to what extent do artists have to consider morality when creating art?
